Just a short post to keep you updated on my decision where to spend my 2-week vacation in January. Needless to say, two weeks aren’t a whole lot if you want explore a foreign country, but visiting Asia was a very spontaneous idea, so I can’t really complain. So, these last few weeks I’ve been trying to decide in which Asian country I shall spend my winter vacation. It’ll be my first trip to Asia, so I’m pretty excited
My options are limited, in a good way, due to the fact, that I don’t want to spend a fortune on the flight or pay a life’s worth of savings on food and accommodation. In addition, I would want to see most of the country in 2 weeks, even if it’s a brief overview and I can only stay in one place for a few days. If there is stopover in Singapore, that would be a definitive plus, as I haven’t visited Singapore either and that would give me a chance to see my friend Stephan, who will be staying there for a few weeks in January (lucky bastard!
).
But let my try to structure me decision a little bit…
Cheap Flight
After some initial research on the internet, I could find cheap flights both to India and Vietnam. The cheapest flights to India were about 500 Euro and 650 Euro for Vietnam. So not much difference there. Flights to India would all be direct flights. Flying to Vietnam would give me a stopover either in Hong Kong or Incheon, South Korea. I would say it’s a tie.
Food and Accommodation
Both countries are dirt cheap when it comes to food and lodging. I would say India has the slight overhand on this one, but not by much when considering the purchasing power of the Euro.
Possibility to see most of the Country in 2 Weeks
Well, this is an easy one. Vietnam wins this one – hands down by far. India is just to too big. Plus, Vietnam limits my route to two options: North to South or South to North. Because the cheapest flight to Vietnam flies in to Hanoi, to the choice has already been made for me. Sometimes not having a choice is great – you don’t have to decide
So I guess that concludes my little competition and Vietnam it’ll be.
