Today my employer told the employees that we have to file our remaining vacation as of December 31st. So I did as I was told and put in my 2 weeks vacation that I had left.
On a side note for all my American readers: Yes, in Germany you are generally entitled to 4 working weeks of paid vacation, but it’s more common to receive 30 working days. At this point you’re probably going to hate me
, but I can assure you other countries are more hate-able (see table below), like Sweden for example – they get on average 33 days of paid vacation! Plus, the Swedish women all look like supermodels! Heck, that alone is like worth 2 weeks of vacation
But some might even construe this as torte if they are already married to a non-Swede.
| Country | Average Leave (2003) |
| Sweden | 33 |
| The Netherlands | 31.5 |
| Denmark | 30 |
| Germany | 29.1 |
| Italy | 28 |
| Luxemburg | 28 |
| Austria | 25 |
| Finland | 25 |
| France | 25 |
| Greece | 23 |
| Ireland | 20 |
| Switzerland | 20 |
| Japan | 18 |
| USA | 12 |

All I got to do now, is figure out where to spend my vacation. Asia is definitely on the top of my list.
